Therapy for Life Transitions
Life changes are hard, but you don’t have to go it alone.
Life transitions, whether planned or unplanned, have a way of challenging our usual ways of coping.
The loss, uncertainty and change that transitions bring can be compounded by external pressure about what you should (and shouldn’t) do, be, and want.
It’s normal to struggle with navigating transitions, and in our experience no one tells you how hard it will be!
Quarter Life Crisis
When we validate how hard your 20s (and often 30s) are, clients are shocked. There’s a reason why we call this period the Quarter Life Crisis. You're no longer in college, supposed to be independent, and faced with real life choices like: is this where I want to live, is this the person I want to date, or why am I not dating? Is this job fulfilling? If not then what do I do?
Clients in their 20s often describe experiencing anxiety and depression for the first time. Or perhaps an old eating disorder, or self-harming behavior returns. This is often the result of facing overwhelming existential questions and feeling like you have to have it all figured out.
Midlife Changes
When approaching midlife in your 40s and 50s, these same topics re-emerge, often with the added stress of parenthood. Relationship issues that have taken a back burner may come to light as children become more independent, which can then be exacerbated when children leave the home.
In addition, as we age we are faced with a sense that time is growing shorter to find what truly makes us happy. Be it a relationship, career or often both.
We have over 20 years of experience working with people facing exactly the same struggles.
Together we’ll reframe your reactions and identify tools to help you cope with life’s obstacles. You’ll gain insight as to why patterns of thought and behavior originated, and how to shift them to ones that will let you feel more fulfilled.
